Quest Software Enhances Real-Time Change Auditing for Active Directory, Exchange and Windows File Servers
ALISO VIEJO, Calif., April 26, 2010 – Quest Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: QSFT) has updated Quest ChangeAuditor®, its real-time change auditing solution that helps organizations increase security and compliance controls for Active Directory, Exchange and Windows File Servers. The newest release includes role-based access, object protection and event logging. These additions provide administrators with a granular solution, enabling them to meet the requirements of both external regulations and internal security operations, all at the same time.
Many IT organizations today have controls in place to prove compliance, but manual tracking and reporting on data can be time consuming, and lead to missing data. ChangeAuditor automates these controls by detecting any changes in Active Directory, files or folders. It also tracks changes in Exchange activity and users who have non-owner mailbox access within Exchange.
Role-Based Access
Control of user and administrator access is critical for managing configuration changes in Windows. Administrators now can grant role-based access to users based on their authorized permissions. This gives auditors the ability to track activity and run the specific reports they need without taking time away from an administrator.
Object Protection
Administrators also need to protect objects from being modified, whether by accident or malicious intent. Object protection is a “safety” button for both users and administrators. Administrators can secure critical Active Directory objects, Exchange mailboxes, and Windows files and folders to prevent any changes from occurring. Avoiding a potential disaster saves time and money, and this protection grants administrators the appropriate privileges without hindering them from completing the rest of their work.
Event Logging
Most organizations today have heterogeneous environments. ChangeAuditor streams the events in real-time, using Quest InTrust® to write the event to a Windows event log. Stringent regulatory requirements obligate administrators to prove long term retention of complete logs, and this new integration enables operational efficiency, compliance and security for event log management.
“Compliance is, and will continue to be, a key driver for IT and the organization,” said Michael Tweddle, senior director of product management at Quest Software. “We want to make sure compliance needs are met, and also ensure that IT environments run efficiently and administrators have access to the latest and greatest technology. The latest release of ChangeAuditor provides one solution to help solve many of these challenges.”
