Vizioncore vRanger Pro DPP Helps German Marshall Fund Reliably and Automatically Back Up Virtual Environment

Submitted by VIB on March 1, 2010 – 11:49 amNo Comment

VizioncoreSolution Also Reduces Backup Time Requirements As Well As System Administration Time

Hoffman Estates, IL, March 1, 2010Vizioncore Inc., the market leader in virtualization data protection and management solutions, today announced that the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) has ensured its growing virtual environment can be backed up reliably without significant hands-on time from system administrators by deploying Vizioncore’s vRanger™ Pro Data Protection Platform (DPP).

“We selected vRanger Pro because of how well it automatically schedules a combination of full and differential backups,” said Marc Hutzell, Senior Systems Administrator for the German Marshall Fund of the United States. “The software also reduces backup time requirements so that we have more options as to when we can schedule backups.”

Another benefit that Hutzell stressed is how vRanger Pro allows the organization to back up over its iSCSI network. “Backups used to take too long, and the files were too large, which would bring the network screeching to a halt,” Hutzell said. “But now we can back up over the iSCSI network in the middle of the afternoon without anyone noticing. This takes away the headaches of disaster recovery and contingency planning.”

The German Marshall Fund is a non-partisan American public policy and grant-making institution dedicated to promoting greater cooperation and understanding between North America and Europe. Founded in 1972 through a gift from Germany as a permanent memorial to Marshall Plan assistance, GMF maintains a strong presence on both sides of the Atlantic. In addition to its headquarters in Washington, DC, GMF has seven offices in Europe: Berlin, Bratislava, Paris, Brussels, Belgrade, Ankara, and Bucharest.

“As our virtual environment becomes larger and more sophisticated, backing it up has actually become easier with vRanger Pro,” Hutzell said. “The ease-of-use is better than anything else we’ve tried, and the scheduling interface is a confidence builder. When we set up a job, we can trust it will run correctly. We also receive instant confirmation by e-mail when backup jobs are completed or an alert in the event of a problem.”
