Interview with Chris Akerberg of Vizioncore

Submitted by VIB on February 1, 2010 – 9:16 amOne Comment

Does Vizioncore compete with your parent company (Quest)?

No, the markets and customer served by Quest are different than those served by Vizioncore, so there’s very little overlap in our go-to-market efforts. In fact, we are highly complementary, and the synergy has a lot of positive implications for the market. Quest has built its reputation for Smart Systems Management in the areas of Application, Windows, and Database Management and is seen as a leader in multiple market categories. Vizioncore, meanwhile, is the leader in Server Virtualization Management, which complements Quest’s portfolio nicely.

Today, and moving forward, Vizioncore has the ability to leverage Quest’s IP to bring greater visibility and control to applications, a logical evolution for those who have adopted virtualization.

Is there any collaboration or integration of products between the two companies (e.g., Foglight and vFoglight)?

Yes, there is significant collaboration between the two companies. Quest has always served customers who need to better manage their physical server environments, while Vizioncore has served those with virtual server infrastructures. Nearly every organization either has or will have a blend of physical and virtual servers running in their IT environment, and with that comes a need to manage both as effectively and consistently as possible.

The combination of Quest and Vizioncore products addresses these challenges. Specifically, we are investing in our technologies that deliver data protection and monitoring, two of the biggest challenges organizations face when trying to prevent outages, maintain application performance, and improve customer satisfaction.

You mentioned vOptimizer Pro earlier. We’ve heard some great things about vOptimizer Pro – what does it do, and why is it so different?

vOptimizer Pro performs several key functions that enable administrators to manage their virtual storage much more effectively with considerably less effort.

First, vOptimizer Pro locates all over-allocated VM storage throughout a virtual enterprise and then calculates its actual monetary value. This allows companies to immediately see just how much money is being wasted on empty storage.

Next, vOptimizer Pro reclaims this empty storage and frees it up for usage by other applications. Customers are often able to defer or even prevent costly storage acquisitions by reusing this previously over-allocated space. vOptimizer Pro also locates any VMs that are running short on storage and enlarges them. This process effectively prevents any unexpected and painful VM outages.

Lastly, vOptimizer Pro can locate misaligned VMs and repartition them to 64K partition offsets. This VM realignment can provide significant performance improvements between 9% and 13%.

vOptimizer Pro is the only existing solution that can proactively manage VM storage and reduce the cost, time, and risk of managing large virtual infrastructures.

Does vOptimizer Pro face any competition?

vOptimizer Pro currently has no direct competition in the virtualization marketplace. A variety of manual processes, scripts, and freeware tools are utilized by customers to assist in managing their virtual storage. This loose collection of resources is error prone and very time consuming to use.

Maybe this is me talking nonsense, but it seems like Google isn’t a company run strictly by the top and they seem to be doing quite well.
